Violets have been used to improve acne, anger, asthma, bronchitis, colds, eczema, fever, grief, headache, heartbreak, lymphatic congestion, mastitis, mumps, psoriasis, sore throat, ulcers, urinary tract infection, and varicose veins. Blue Violet Leaf is an anti-inflammatory, diaphoretic, diuretic, emollient, expectorant, and a laxative. It is taken internally, as tea, in the treatment of bronchitis, respiratory catarrh, coughs, and asthma.

Violet leaves and flowers contain beta-carotene, vitamin C, salicylates, the flavonoid rutin, mucilage, and the flowers contain essential oil.
